Redhead

I saw a bird today
I got a good look
Before he flew away

With wings that flutter
And red on his head
We looked at each other
And this is what he said

“I flap my wings to fly
I flap them when I am glad
I sing a sad song when I cry
I sing merrily with my friends”

With that he tilted his beak
And said farewell
Flew off to greet his friends
A bluebird and a cardinal.

I have been writing poetry for the last 13 years. It all started as an assignment for a creative writing course. I never thought I would like writing, as I am dyslexic and language was always a struggle for me, but I fell in love with the art form in that class.
