Between a Doorway

Between a Doorway

as the last light from a fall sun fades
i linger by the doorway to smell
wet leaves and smoke fill my nose
a puzzle of emotions take over
nostalgia and sorrow quietly roar
in my heart.

days gone, over they play as i inhale
moments lost, in a clouded haze
forever misplaced.

to close the door will be the end
memories will fade as days progress
dots will spread until no lines can connect
maybe if i just hold onto one.

a blackness takes over the sky
inky clouds hover before moon and stars
masking light dimming the world behind.

with a sigh, i enter the rest of the way
through a door to close
after one last grasp at a star
never known how far to fall.

I have been writing poetry for the last 13 years. It all started as an assignment for a creative writing course. I never thought I would like writing, as I am dyslexic and language was always a struggle for me, but I fell in love with the art form in that class.
